Men Second in Preseason Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS – Western State men’s cross country earned a No. 2 ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Central Region poll released this morning. The Mountaineer women were picked to finish third after finishing as the regional runner-up last season
The Western State men return four All-Americans from last season’s national runner-up squad. The Central Region features the top three teams from last year’s national championships in Adams State, Western and Colorado Mines.
The Western State women came in third in the preseason poll behind Adams State and Minnesota, Duluth. Hillory Davis, an All-American in 2009, and Julianne Payton, an All-American from 2008, return for the Mountaineers this season.
The Mountaineers hold their annual Time Trials Saturday at 9 a.m. at Tomichi Village. The regular season begins two weeks later at the Colorado State Invitational Sept. 11.
