GUNNISON, Colo. – The two-time defending RMAC champion Western State wrestling team will kick off the season with the annual Preseason Victory Party and Reverse Raffle Oct. 9 at the Fred Field Western Heritage Center. The evening will also be a feature event of the “Wags Era Reunion” being held during the weekend.
Action begins at 6 p.m. with a social and live music before the 7 p.m. dinner and reverse raffle. A $100 raffle ticket includes dinner for two of BBQ top sirloin, pasta and clam sauce, garlic bread, and salad, all made from scratch, and served home style. The ticket also includes one chance to win up to $3,000 in the reverse raffle.
Participants in the raffle do not need to be present to win the cash prizes. Those interested in only the dinner can attend at $25 per person.
The event attracted more than 320 fans, alumni and parents, which helps support the scholarships for the Mountaineer wrestling program.
The reverse raffle comes the day after the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony, which will feature 1973 NCAA College Division runner-up Greg Maestas in the induction ceremony. Tickets for the induction ceremony cost $40 and can be reserved by calling (970) 943-2079.
