ALMONT, Colo. – A rafting trip down the Taylor River and a rock-climbing expedition sandwiched a night of camping as the Western State women’s basketball team spent last Thursday and Friday on a team bonding trip. The adventure was centered out of the Gunnison Mountain Park northeast of Almont.
"This was an amazing time for our team," said Western State Head Women's Basketball Coach Latricia Trammell. "Wilderness Pursuits did an incredible job bringing our team closer. We have a wonderful group of young women and I was honored to watch them work together and grow closer as a team."
Time was dedicated on Thursday afternoon for individual reflection before team reflections in the evening. The Mountaineers also learned camping skills and basic Leave No Trace principles.
Western State is welcoming six newcomers, which includes a mix of freshmen and transfers, along with six returners. The Mountaineers have made back-to-back RMAC Shootout appearances for the first time since the conference expansion in the mid-1990s, and have knocked off top-five opponents in each of the last two seasons.
