PIKES PEAK, Colo. – Tim Parr, a 2005 Western State alumnus, finished third in his age group and No. 37 overall in the 55th running of the Pikes Peak Ascent this morning. He finished the run in 2 hours, 45 minutes and 2 seconds.
Parr placed third in the 25-29 age group after winning the overall race last year and placing second in 2008. He is among the handful of runners who are also scheduled to compete tomorrow in the Pikes Peak Marathon.
Today’s course featured an elevation gain of 7,815 feet over 13.32 miles. The race was also the 7th Annual World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Challenge, which helped attract more than 2,000 runners from 19 countries.
Parr was a member of three national championship cross country teams for the Mountaineers and earned five All-America honors between track and field and cross country. He’s won the last two Salida Marathons, including the course record in 2009, and last summer won the Leadville Trail 100. He is a two-time member of the United States Mountain Running Team and finished No. 25 at the U.S. National Mountain Running Championships in June.
