LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Frank Nails, whose 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award graces the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room, will have his Clark Country High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame honor displayed in a new location this season – Sam Boyd Stadium at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Nails coached Bishop Gorham High School to the Nevada large-school state championship in 1970 and spent more than 20 years as the assistant principal for athletics at Las Vegas High School. He was responsible for hiring Kris Cinkovich, who won a state championship in 2001 and is now the assistant coach for wide receivers at UNLV.
A 22-foot wide by 12-foot high mural will contain the Hall of Fame classes and was brought to Sam Boyd Stadium in part by Nails. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000 in the fifth induction class.
The mural will be in place by the UNLV home opener Sept. 4 against Wisconsin.
Nails was a member of the Mountaineer football team before graduating in 1959.
