2010-11 Schedule
GUNNISON, Colo. – Two-time defending RMAC champion Western State College will welcome four teams that placed in the top 20 of last season’s national championships to Paul Wright Gym as one of nine home duals on the 2010-11 wrestling schedule. The Mountaineers carry a 12-dual home win streak dating back to 2008 into the season.
The annual Crimson and Slate Dual will unofficially kick off the season Nov. 10 in Paul Wright Gym before the start of the regular season Nov. 13 at the Wyoming Cowboy Open. Western State heads to Nebraska-Omaha the following weekend for the UNO Open before opening the RMAC schedule against Mesa State Dec. 2 at home.
The Mountaineers wrap up the individual tournament schedule at Fort Hays State two days later before taking part in two duals Dec. 10 at the Air Force Academy. Western State takes on the host Falcons at 4 p.m. in Clune Arena, who they’ve won nine straight duals against since 2000. The Mountaineers end the night with Coe College at 6 p.m., the fourth-place team in the Division III tournament in each of the last three seasons.
Western State kicks off the 2011 year at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Dual Championships at the University of Northern Iowa. Brackets and start times for the event will be released closer to the tournament.
The 21st Annual Tracy Borah Duals take place Jan. 15 with three duals against Western Wyoming, Air Force and Findlay. The rest of the regular season involves RMAC contests, highlighted by the Adams State dual Jan. 27 in Alamosa, Colo. The Mountaineers won the final five matches against the Grizzlies last season to claim a 24-15 victory in Paul Wright Gym.
Western State will face top-15 teams from a year ago on back-to-back nights in Paul Wright Gym with Nebraska-Kearney Feb. 9 and Fort Hays State Feb. 10. The regular season ends Feb. 15 at home with New Mexico Highlands.
The RMAC Championships and Super Region Four tournament will move to a two-day format, Feb. 26-27, in San Francisco, Calif. The Division II National Championships will take place March 11-12 at Nebraska-Kearney.
