GUNNISON, Colo. – Former student-athletes who started a run of five straight NAIA postseason appearances will be returning to the Western State campus for the 25-year reunion of their achievements during Homecoming 2010.
The 1985-86 team posted a 12-4 RMAC record and advanced to the championship game of the NAIA District VII Playoffs. The Mountaineers won 12 of their last 14 games and won by 10 or more points in six of those games. The season kicked off a strong era for the women’s basketball team, who won the RMAC championship the following year and advanced to the postseason the next four years.
The returning team members will take part in a number of the Homecoming functions, including the traditional “Lighting of the W” and the football game. The team will also have a float during the parade, take part in the “Meet the Coaches Breakfast” and socialize with current Head Coach Latricia Trammell and her staff.
