GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Moskowitz is excited to announce two commitments for the 2010-11 season. Tyler McManaman, a 6-1 guard from Saddleback College, and Justin Gallagher, a 6-6 forward from Metro State, will join five student-athletes who committed earlier this year.
McManaman signed an institutional letter of intent. He was second on the team in scoring, shot 46 percent and appeared in all 31 games. McManaman helped lead Saddleback to the California Junior College State Championship title and earned on a spot on the all-tournament team after leading the tournament in scoring. He spent his freshman season at Iowa Central Community College where he played in 17 games.
McManaman was a four-sport athlete at Northeast High School in Lincoln, Neb., and was an all-city selection in basketball and football. He was also an all-state performer in track and field.
“Tyler will provide another mature wing player for us with lots of experience,” Moskowitz said. “He is a competitor and a winner, just the type of players we like in our program. Tyler has competed at the highest level in junior college basketball and we are excited to have him part of our family. I suspect from day one, Tyler will be making his presence felt on the court and earning the respect of his teammates.”
Gallagher is enrolled at Western for the upcoming season after redshirting at Metro State last season with a broken bone in his foot. In his prep career, Gallagher helped lead Faith Christian Academy to the Colorado 3A state championship and earned all-state honors his senior year. He averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and 58 percent from the field in his final season, and scored as many as 29 points in a single game. He was also a state track and field qualifier in the 200-meter dash and discus.
"Justin is young man who we are really excited about,” Moskowitz said. “He is a tough kid who shoots the ball extremely well. Justin enjoys contact and will bring a bit more toughness to our inside game. We have Justin for four years, with some game time experience I am sure he will develop into a consistent player for us."
The duo join Jon Cooke, Jordan Adams, Casey Jackson, Trever Ford and Jake Howe who all signed National Letters of Intent or institutional letters of intent earlier this year.
