COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tara Richardson set a new course record for her age group and was joined by teammate Hillory Davis in the top five of the overall results from the Women’s Distance Festival 5K Run held July 17. The run was held at North Monument Valley Park and presented by the Colorado Running Company.

Richardson, a two-time All-RMAC performer during the outdoor season, finished first overall with 18 minutes, 26 seconds and broke the five-year course record of 18:43 set by former UCCS runner and All-American Shannon Payne. Hillory Davis, a cross country and outdoor track All-American last season, finished fifth overall and third in her age group, the 20-24 group, with 19:27.

Angela Vitulli placed 12th overall and fourth in her age group and Julianne Payton finished 13th overall after pacing her teammates early in the race.

The Women’s Distance Festival 5K originated in 1979 and has been run continuously since 1992. The course was held at an elevation of 6,050 feet and grass and dirt trails. Alisha Williams, a 2005 Western State graduate and the 2003 Division II Cross Country Runner of the Year, holds the overall course record of 17:57 set in 2009.
