LAS VEGAS - Both Shane Carwin (WSC '99) and Brock Lesnar weighed in at the maximum 265 pounds during the weigh-ins for UFC 116 earlier tonight on Spike TV. The two heavyweights will fight in the UFC unification bout tomorrow night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The fight will come at the end of the pay-per-view broadcast, which begins at 8 p.m. MDT.
Carwin is 12-0 in his heavyweight mixed martial arts career with no fight lasting longer than the first round. Lesnar is 4-1, with only two fights ending in the first round.
Carwin was the 1999 Division II National Heavyweight Wrestling Champion after finishing as runner-up twice before that. He was also a two-time All-American middle linebacker and participated in the 1998 NFL Combine. He holds program wrestling records for career falls, season falls and fastest fall and holds the Mountaineer football record for season tackles.
Carwin is a member of the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame and the RMAC Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the RMAC All-Century Football Team on defense last summer.
