OLATHE -- For Olathe P.E. teacher and coach Jerry Hollingshead, track has been part of his life for a long time, whether in coaching or competing.
Hollingshead competed as a student at Montrose High School in 1978, setting two school records for long and triple jump. Both those records still stand.
He also was a five-time All-American field athlete at Western State College -- three times in triple jump and twice in high jump. Soon after competing, he became a student assistant coach for Western State before becoming the Ridgway High track and field coach from 1990 to 2000.
The past two years, the Olathe coach has competed in Greeley in the state Seniors Games and has won 12 medals.
