Altman ('81) Continues to Fill Out Oregon Staff

EUGENE, Ore. – Western State alumnus and former Mountaineer men’s basketball assistant coach Dana Altman (’81) continues to fill out his coaching staff after becoming the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Oregon in April. Altman was an assistant coach at Western State from 1980-82 and put together 13 consecutive postseason appearances at Creighton.
Altman was named the Ducks’ 19th men’s basketball coach after leaving Creighton as the winningest coach in program history with a 327-176 record. He was a four-time conference coach of the year with the Blue Jays and a finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year in 2003. He’s lead his teams to the NCAA Division I tournament seven times, including second round appearances in 1999 and 2002.
Altman coached four NBA players, six All-Americans and four Academic All-Americans. Creighton won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament six times and the regular season championship once under his guidance.
Altman has a career coaching record of 420-243 between Creighton, Marshall and Kansas State. When including his record as a junior college head coach at Southeast (Neb.) and Moberly (Mo.), his record improves to 533-267.
Altman earned his master of business administration degree from Western State in 1981 and was a member of the business faculty during the 1981-82 academic year. The Mountaineers advanced to the RMAC tournament in the 1982. He helped coach three All-RMAC performers, including 1981 first team selection Scott Wilson.
