GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State College opens the next men’s and women’s basketball conference season in Nebraska in the 2010-11 RMAC schedule released today by the Mountaineers. The new schedule features 11 home conference games as the RMAC moves from a 19-game to 22-game schedule in the upcoming season.
The Mountaineers open at Nebraska-Kearney Dec. 3 and at Chadron State Dec. 4 before hosting the two New Mexico schools in Paul Wright Gym Dec. 10-11. Western State faces Adams State and Fort Lewis on the road right after final exams Dec. 17-18 and will host a pair of winter break games Jan. 2-3 with Regis and Metro State.
Five of the final seven games will be played at home during the month of February, including the last three against Mesa State (Feb. 19), Fort Lewis (Feb. 25) and Adams State (Feb. 26).
The Mountaineer women are coming off their second straight RMAC Shootout appearance, where they took the eventual national runner-up to the final six seconds in the quarterfinals. The women’s team returns three starters, which includes All-RMAC West Division athlete Brooke Pendergraft.
The men’s team returns eight from last year’s team, including All-RMAC West Division athlete Weylan Towns.
Nonconference schedules are still being finalized by both programs.
