GUNNISON, Colo. – Kallee Cool, a four-time conference champion and a first-team all-league outside hitter last fall, will join the Western State College volleyball team after signing a National Letter of Intent last weekend. Cool also accepted a scholarship for the Mountaineer track and field team.
“Kallee is a key to the future of Mountaineer volleyball and its success,” said Head Volleyball Coach Katie Moskowitz. “I believe she has the ability to step in to a great role as a true freshman. Kallee and her mom fell in love with Western State when they arrived and became instant members of our volleyball family and I am thrilled to have her level of competitive drive as well as her 'team first' mentality!”
Cool led Analy High School to the league championship all four years and the Northgate Tournament championship last fall. She earned first team all-league honors as a senior and honorable mention honors as a sophomore. She earned the Scholastic Athlete Award all four seasons and was named the Press Democrat Athlete of the Week once.
Cool holds the program record for kills and is second in blocks in a pair of records both set last season.
A member of the Empire Volleyball Club, Cool led her team to a fourth-place finish at the Volleyball Festival in Reno, Nev., two seasons ago in the 16-and-under division. She is currently a part of the Mizuno 18-and-under division for Empire Volleyball.
On the track, Cool is a two-time Female Hurdler of the Year at Analy and was honored with the Most Outstanding Performance by a Female Athlete on the track and field team during the last two seasons. She won the league 300-meter hurdle title in her first two seasons and has collected four runner-up performances between the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She is a three-time participant at the Meet of Champions held each year at the University of California.
Cool also competes in the open 100 meters, the 200-meter dash and is a member of the 4x100-meter relay team.
“We are so excited to have Kallee join Western State," said Head Track and Field Coach Chris Bradford. "She is an amazing athlete and an even better person. She has a ton of potential on the track and will be great addition to both the track and volleyball programs."
