NEW ORLEANS - Western State men's indoor track and field remained in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Central Region Rankings at No. 9 after the completion of the conference championships throughout Division II last weekend. The Mountaineers finished fourth at the RMAC Indoor Championships.
Five individual athletes qualified for the national championships next weekend, led by Iain Donnan in the 5,000-meter run. The distance medley relay team of Tyler Rasmussen, Andy Crook, Jerrett Swarr and Loren Ahonen advanced with the nation's ninth-fastest time. Overall, the Mountaineers had eight student-athletes record provisional qualifying times in six different events this season.
The regional rankings are mathematically calculated based on the national performance lists and the strength and depth of a team. The system is being employed for the first time at the Division II level after success at the Division I level during the past two seasons.
