Piano Appraisal (.pdf)

GUNNISON, Colo. - A Lindstedt Square Grand Piano, manufactured in the 1870s, is the most recent addition to the Ninth Annual Sam Boyd / Mountaineer Athletic Association Crab Feed, Auction Dinner and Casino Night, presented by United Companies and Varra Companies on March 27 at the Fred Field Heritage Center in Gunnison.

The piano originates from the final great manufacturing period for square grand pianos that were popular during the Victorian age because of the ornate and elaborate carving and design. The cultural shift of the country to an industrialized economy and the streamlining of products and homes near the turn of the 20th century, along with additional advances in piano building, made the square pianos obsolete in the early 1900s.

The piano, recently professionally appraised, is in playable condition but needs to be tuned. All 88 keys have been well maintained with even ivory color and no warping. All structural and musical components are in good working order.

The piano will be part of an auction that also includes vacation packages to San Luis Obispo, Southern Oregon and Las Vegas; signed memorabilia from former president Jimmy Carter and MMA heavyweight title contender Shane Carwin; preseason Bronco tickets for four; and a volleyball team for hire. A full list of auction items, casino prizes and door prizes is online at wscathletics.com/crabfeed.

Tickets for the evening are still available at $40 by calling (970) 943-2079. Before the auction, attendees will enjoy a plate of fresh Dungeness crab and an evening of casino games after the auction.
