As we approach the end of the first round of division play, we are up against the two top teams in conference Adams and Fort Lewis. Both of the team are ranked regionally and Fort Lewis is ranked sixth nationally. Last year we handed the Skyhawks, No. 2 in the nation at the time, their first and only loss in conference last year in a 69-61 victory on our home court.

We are coming off a great week of two wins against Western New Mexico and Mesa State. The team will welcome Nikki Trujillo back after missing both games last week for a death in the family.

Currently we sit two games ahead of Western New Mexico in the battle for the final spot of playoffs, a win this weekend would be an added support for that spot. We come in leading the conference in offensive rebounds with Fort Lewis in last place while Adams leads in defensive rebounds but is last in three point field goals made per game. Although the stats look good on paper, we know that all players will need to give 110 percent this weekend to come away with two wins.

Once again, as in the past two years, we hope to hand Fort Lewis another loss.  We are looking to extend our win streak this weekend and are very excited to take on these home game challenges!

This weekend is “Operation Red” which encourages all fans to wear red in support of the Mountaineers. Gate admission will be free on Friday night as the Extended Studies Program covers the cost for all visitors. If you have not come out to see us play this year, the season is nearing an end so make plans to attend this weekend. Go Mountaineers!
