2010 Schedule

GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State football will play two nights and start the season with three road games in the 2010 schedule released today. The Mountaineers kick off the season Aug. 28 at Fort Hays State after posting their best RMAC finish since 2004.

Western State concludes its two-year agreement with the Tigers in a 6 p.m. MDT meeting at Lewis Field before heading to two-time defending Division I Football Championship Subdivision runner-up Montana Sept. 4. The Mountaineers held the Grizzlies to 10 first-half points in the first meeting between the two programs last season.

A bye during the Sept. 11 weekend will give the Mountaineers time to prepare for the RMAC schedule Sept. 18 at Chadron State. Western State opens at home Sept. 25 for Homecoming against Nebraska-Kearney in a 1 p.m. contest at Mountaineer Bowl.

The Mountaineers host Western New Mexico Oct. 9 for the annual Hall of Fame Game. Three of the final four games of the season will be at home, starting with Family Weekend against Colorado School of Mines Oct. 23. Western State hosts Colorado-State Pueblo Nov. 6 before closing out the regular season against rival Adams State Nov. 13 in the Colorado Classic.

Last season, Western State finished with the most RMAC wins since 2003 and put together its first three-game win streak since 2004. The Mountaineers will return three All-RMAC honorees from last season, including second-team selection Shaun Suttorp.
