Complete All-Century Golf Team (.pdf)
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Oliver “Ollie” Woods, the coach behind eight RMAC men’s golf championships at Western State, was named the conference all-time coach in the All-Century Team released by the conference office last month. Woods spent 26 years at Western State in a variety of coaching and teaching positions and spent 20 as head men’s golf coach.
Woods was considered a leader in new instruction methods for golf, including the use of video for swing analysis and the implementation of net-protected indoor facilities. In 1987, Western State hosted its first RMAC golf championship and produced two All-RMAC golfers on the same team.
Woods also established the Rocky Mountain Golf School, whose many clients included former New Mexico Governor Garrey Carruthers. Woods was also a National Golf Foundation Consultant.
Aside from his golf coaching duties, Woods also spent time as head coach for track and field, led wrestling to a third-place national finish in Division II competition and led football to a RMAC title in 1966. He was a 1998 inductee into the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame.
