DUBLIN – Western State freshman cross country runner David Flynn finished fifth for Ireland and No. 54 overall in the under-23 race at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships held earlier today. Flynn finished the 8,018-meter course in 26 minutes and 56 seconds as the Irish finished sixth out of 11 teams.
Flynn was a member of the Clonliffe Harries Athletic Club and ran at the club’s home course. He was the runner-up at the National Intermediate Cross Country Championships in February and was the top Irishman at the Celtic Nationals Cross Country meet in January.
Flynn earned All-America honors for the Mountaineers at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and finished fifth among freshmen with 32:29.2 in the 10-kilometer event. Western State captured its third-straight runner-up finish at the national meet.
