GUNNISON, Colo. - Nicholas Kipruto finished in 16 minutes, 31 seconds, while Rebecca Dussault won her fourth women's title in the 59th Annual W Mountain Race today in Gunnison. Dussault won the women's title in 20:19 and finished No. 21 overall out of the 90 runners who finished today.
The course climbed 921 feet to the summit of W Mountain over 2.8 miles.
Kipruto won from Dine College, who brought both men’s and women’s team for the run. Ryan Haebe led the Western State cross country team with 16:42 as the Mountaineers claimed three of the top four positions. Western State admissions counselor Ben Johnson was the top open athlete to finish in seventh overall with 18:19.
Dussault won the race for the second straight year by cutting 18 seconds off her 2008 time. Cora Gann led the Mountaineer cross country team with 22:31 and placed third among women and No. 32 overall. Angela Vitulli came in second for the team at 25:11.
Up Next: Western State begins its championship schedule next Saturday, Oct. 24, with the RMAC Championships in Denver, Colo. The women’s race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s race at 11 a.m., at Washington Park.
