The eighth-ranked Western State wrestling team gave Zach Lee and
Larry Wilbanks a happy homecoming with a 52-0 rout of Grand Canyon University.
The Mountaineers are now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in RMAC duals. Grand Canyon fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The dual took place in Payson, Ariz., the hometowns of both Lee and Wilbanks. Lee got the home fans on their feet with a fall at 165 pounds and top-ranked Wilbanks knocked off Jack Porter 5-1 at 174.
Andrew Skinner also got a pin for the Mountaineers at Heavyweight, while Eddie Lopez (125) and Jesse Cruz (133) both had major decisions.
Senior Neil Samples scored a 3-1 decision at 157 and the rest of the Western victories came as the result of forfeits.
The Mountaineers continue to Las Vegas, Nev. for Friday and Saturday’s Cliff Keen/Las Vegas Invitational.
