Western State College true freshman Elliott Copeland earned his third pin of the season in the second period to highlight a 28-6 victory for the Mountaineers (6-4 / 2-2 RMAC) against Colorado Mines (1-4 / 0-3 RMAC) tonight in Volk Gymnasium. The Mountaineers won eight of the 10 matches en route to the 11th straight victory against the Orediggers.

Ever since he could “barely walk,” Corbin Bennetts was training to be a wrestler. From the time he was very young, “My dad had me working on my wrestling stance,” the freshman wrestler says about his upbringing in the sport. In addition, “I had three older brothers who also wrestled,” he says. But it was really his father's enthusiasm that got him started on it.

Kyle Graulus picked up the lone bonus point victory for either team with a 11-1 major decision against Colorado Mesa's Paco Retana, but Colorado Mesa (7-8 / 1-2 RMAC) won six of the 10 matches for an 18-13 dual tonight in Paul Wright Gym.

With a four-dual win streak going into tonight's conference dual with Colorado Mesa, Western State College wrestling broke into the top 20 of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association National Poll for the first time this season. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 18 in the polls released Wednesday afternoon.
