2010 Volleyball Schedule Released

Head Coach Katie Moskowitz will be at home for seven of the final nine matches of the RMAC season in the 2010 Western State volleyball schedule released today. The Mountaineers finished fifth in the West Division in 2009 after closing the season with a 12-11 set record over the final seven matches.

Well, the season is already over. As a team we ended up 7-12 in conference this year, not exactly where we envisioned ourselves, but it takes time to build a team around a new staff. As with most things it takes patience, hard work, and a belief that you will get there. The hardest thing most of the time is the patience.

Mountaineers Part of Breast Cancer Fight
Western State College volleyball’s breast cancer awareness nights the last two seasons, which have combined for nearly $2,000 in donations, was part of the $100,000 donated by the Gunnison Valley “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” campaign to Gunnison Valley Hospital.

"All in the Family"
It is common for a husband and wife to have the same interests. It can also be common for them to be in similar professional fields.  However, head coaches at Western, Katie and Mike Moskowitz, are not common.  As one of the only husband and wife tandems to be head coaches in Division II, Katie and Mike mix family, sports, and work every day.

Volleyball Adds Dardis to Signing Class
Western State College Head Volleyball Coach Katie Moskowitz has announced the signing of Montrose prep product Kelsie Dardis to a National Letter of Intent. Dardis is the second member of the Mountaineers’ 2010 signing class during the early signing period. She finished her senior season on the All-Southwestern League team.

Moskowitz Signs Larson to NLI
Western State Head Volleyball Coach Katie Moskowitz has announced the signing of Windsor High School standout Sara Larson to a National Letter of Intent for the early signing period. Larson led the Wizards to a Class 4A district final appearance this season and rejoins Rachel Weakland, who graduated from Windsor in 2009.

Volleyball Hosts Open Tryout Feb. 20
Western State College volleyball will hold open tryouts for interested high school graduates, junior college graduates and released transfers Feb. 20 from 2-4 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym. The focus will be on middle and outside hitters, although there is a small possibility that the Mountaineers could pick up a defensive specialist, libero or setter.

Volleyball Camp Registration Now Open
Volleyball student-athletes from Colorado and across the region are invited to participate in the Western State College individual skills and team camps during the month of July. Athletes can attend basic skills camps, elite skills camps and team camps, with top-level instruction from the Mountaineer coaches and student-athletes.

Volleyball Attendance Rises 18 Percent
Western State College volleyball experienced an 18-percent increase in the attendance average for the 2009 season that concluded last Saturday. The Mountaineers were one of six RMAC schools to average more than 250 fans per match, and finished with 282 fans during the nine-match home season
