Western State men’s and women’s basketball will face five Division I opponents throughout the western United States in the 2010 exhibition schedule released today by head coaches Latricia Trammell and Mike Moskowitz. Three games will occur in the Colorado Front Range region.

Western State head men’s basketball coach Mike Moskowitz has announced an agreement with Division I Wyoming to move the Mountaineer’s regular season contest against the Cowboys up two weeks to Dec. 17. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. from the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo.

Tyler McManaman, a 6-1 guard from Saddleback College, and Justin Gallagher, a 6-6 forward from Metro State, will join five student-athletes who committed earlier this year.

Don Meyer, a former Western State assistant men’s basketball coach from 1968-70 will have his name associated with the likes of John Wooden, Henry Iba, Red Auerbach and Pat Summitt when he receives the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Aug. 12.

Nearly 500 athletes and coaches from 50 teams from across the region converged on the hardwood courts at Western State and other gyms in the Valley for the basketball team camps last week. The women’s team camp invited nearly 100 athletes from June 21-23 while the men needed six courts for teams from June 24-26.

Western State alumnus and former Mountaineer men’s basketball assistant coach Dana Altman (’81) continues to fill out his coaching staff after becoming the head men’s basketball coach at Oregon in April. Altman was an assistant coach at Western State from 1980-82 and put together 13 consecutive postseason appearances at Creighton.
