After opening the season with a disappointing loss last week at Fort Hays State University in Kansas, we took to the practice field this week to improve on our performance. This week, we head to Missoula, Mont., to take on one of the top teams in Division I-FCS, the University of Montana Grizzlies.

Gorham Passes for 218 Yards in First Start

Junior quarterback Miles Gorham passed for 218 yards in his first collegiate start and connected on touchdown passes to Lukas Adams and Shaun Suttorp as Western State (0-1) dropped a 45-20 decision to Fort Hays State (1-0) tonight at Lewis Memorial Field. Gorham finished 21-of-32 with no interceptions.

Mountaineers Wrap Up Preseason Practices


Mountaineer fans got their final look at the Western State football team this morning before the regular season next week when the Mountaineers hosted the Lawn Chair Scrimmage. Approximately 200 fans watched the Mountaineers go through a number of series, including special teams, with a variety of athletes and combination matchups.

Nails HOF Honor Finds New Home at UNLV
Frank Nails, whose 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award graces the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room, will have his Clark Country High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame honor displayed in a new location this season – Sam Boyd Stadium at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Bus Riders to Return for 60 Year Reunion
A group of Mountaineer football student-athletes whose harrowing adventure is probably one of the most famous bus rides in Western State history will reunite this fall to commemorate the 60-year anniversary of the ride. The “Bus Riders” will return to campus during the Hall of Fame weekend of Oct. 8-9.
