Aish, Dryer to Speak at Miami Marathon Expo

Elva Dryer and Michael Aish, who combined for four national cross country individual championships for Western State College, will be part of the featured speakers during the ING Miami Marathon Fitness and Health Expo Jan. 29-30. The pair will discuss marathon training along with Matt Downin of Strands.com on both days of the expo.

Brown, Ahonen Lead 9 All-Academic Runners

Loren Ahonen and Sean Brown led nine Western State runners on the RMAC All-Academic Cross Country teams released today. Ahonen and Brown each earned a spot on the first team to lead six Mountaineers on the men’s team while Grace Eggleston’s second-team selection led three Mountaineer women.

Vandenbusche Enters Coaching Hall of Fame

Former head cross country coach Duane Vandenbusche, who coached the Mountaineers to 12 national championships, was formally inducted into the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame Wednesday at the association’s annual convention at the J.W. Marriott in Orlando.

Flotrack to Stream USTFCCCA Hall of Fame
The 15th Induction Class of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame, which includes former Western State coach Duane Vandenbusche, will be streamed live via Flotrack beginning at 7 p.m. MST. The induction ceremony will be during the annual USTFCCCA convention.

Flynn Finishes Fifth for Ireland
Western State freshman cross country runner David Flynn finished fifth for Ireland and No. 54 overall in the under-23 race at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships held earlier today. Flynn finished the 8,018-meter course in 26 minutes and 56 seconds as the Irish finished sixth out of 11 teams.

Flynn to Compete at European XC Champs
Western State College freshman runner David Flynn will compete for Ireland in the SPAR European Cross Country Championships Dec. 13 in Dublin, Ireland. It will be the first European Athletics Championship to be held in Ireland and Flynn's first appearance on the under-23 national team.

Men 2nd with Five All-Americans at Nationals
All five scoring runners for the Western State men's team earned All-America honors as the Mountaineers finished as the national runner-up for the third consecutive season at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships today at the Southern Indiana cross country course. The women finished ninth.

Mountaineers Travel to Indiana for Nationals
The chance to add more gold-plated hardware to the trophy cases in Paul Wright Gym await the Western State men’s and women’s cross country teams at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday in Evansville, Ind. Both teams depart from Denver Thursday morning and inspect the course Friday before the championships.

National Meet is Annual Event for Western
Since 1986, the national cross country championships have been a staple for the Western State cross country program. Although never a guarantee for any program to advance to the national championships, both Mountaineer teams will make their 24th straight trip to nationals since 1986 when they travel to Evansville, Ind., this weekend.
