Make Plans for Reverse Raffle Oct. 9

The two-time defending RMAC champion Western State wrestling team will kick off the season with the annual Preseason Victory Party and Reverse Raffle Oct. 9 at the Fred Field Western Heritage Center. The evening will also be a feature event of the “Wags Era Reunion” being held during the weekend.

Two-time defending RMAC champion Western State College will welcome four teams that placed in the top 20 of last season’s national championships to Paul Wright Gym as one of nine home duals on the 2010-11 wrestling schedule. The Mountaineers carry a 12-dual home win streak dating back to 2008 into the season.

RMAC Showcase to Feature Hall of Fame


The 70th episode of the RMAC Showcase, which will feature last month's conference Hall of Fame ceremony, will debut tomorrow night at 7 p.m. on the Altitude Sports & Entertainment Network. The ceremony featured two Western State individuals and the 1954 Mountaineer football team.

Carwin Falls in Second Round of UFC 116
Shane Carwin dominated in the first round, but fell victim to an arm triangle choke 2 minutes and 19 seconds into the second round and was forced to tap out to Brock Lesnar in the UFC Heavyweight Unification bout tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It’s Carwin’s first loss in his mixed martial arts career as he moves to 12-1.

Carwin Weighs In at Maximum 265
Both Shane Carwin (WSC '99) and Brock Lesnar weighed in at the maximum 265 pounds during the weigh-ins for UFC 116 earlier tonight on Spike TV. The two heavyweights will fight in the UFC unification bout tomorrow night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The fight will come at the end of the pay-per-view broadcast, which begins at 8 p.m. MDT.

Carwin Featured on ESPN's SportsCenter


Western State 1999 alumnus Shane Carwin, who will fight for the UFC Heavyweight Title Saturday, was a featured guest on SportsCenter this morning with host Josh Elliott. Carwin is the interim titleholder and will face Brock Lesnar in pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Carwin Goes for Outright UFC Title Saturday

Two Individuals, One Team Enter Hall of Fame
Two individuals who combined for five national championships and the first conference championship team in any sport for Western State were among the inductees at the 2010 RMAC Hall of Fame Ceremony last Saturday night. Regina Rhodes, Shane Carwin and the 1954 football team were inducted for their accomplishments for the Mountaineers.
