Mountaineers Place Six on All-Academic Team

Western State College track and field placed six women on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team announced today. The Mountaineers placed three more student-athletes on the women’s team compared to last year’s team.

Watts and Murray Earn Paul Wright Awards

A national runner-up in the steeplechase and one of the most prolific scorers in Western State women’s basketball history are the 2009-10 recipients of the Paul W. Wright Award. Glen Watts and Amber Murray were selected for the award given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete.

Trammell Assists With "Xtreme" Camp

Western State Head Women’s Basketball Coach Latricia Trammell served as an instructor for the Trinity Baptist Church Xtreme Basketball Camp held in Paul Wright Gym last week. Trammell worked on a staff that taught basketball fundamentals to first through sixth graders in the Gunnison Valley.

Distance Camp Brings More Than 100 to WSC

More than 100 student-athletes from across eight states spent six days at the highest four-year college in the nation for cross country training during the High Altitude Distance Camp held in the Gunnison Valley last week. Runners learned training, warm-up, nutrition and motivation techniques while enjoying various recreational activities in the area.

Hotchkiss Wins "Toughest Competitor Alive"

Former Mountaineer football student-athlete Josh Hotchkiss (’01) earned his second gold medal in the “Toughest Competitor Alive” event at the Western States Police & Fire Games last Saturday. Hotchkiss is a member of the S.W.A.T. team in Arvada, Colo., and won his first gold medal in the event since 2007.

Richardson Wins Distance Festival 5K

Tara Richardson set a new course record for her age group and was joined by teammate Hillory Davis in the top five of the overall results from the Women’s Distance Festival 5K Run held July 17. The run was held at North Monument Valley Park and presented by the Colorado Running Company.

RMAC Showcase to Feature Hall of Fame

The 70th episode of the RMAC Showcase, which will feature last month's conference Hall of Fame ceremony, will debut tomorrow night at 7 p.m. on the Altitude Sports & Entertainment Network. The ceremony featured two Western State individuals and the 1954 Mountaineer football team.

Stewart Adds Mike Aimone to Coaching Staff

Western State College Head Football Coach Pat Stewart is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Aimone as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers. Aimone will focus on the defensive line after spending the last two seasons an assistant coach at Chadron State College.
