Western State College has one of the top Athletic Training staff and facility in the RMAC.
The staff is led by head athletic trainer Don Mundell and assistant trainer Janine Pleau.
The training room features whirlpool baths, five taping tables and a separate examination room.
In order to complete in athletics at Western State, you must download and fill out these Physical and Insurance forms.
Don Mundell - Head Trainer
Don Mundell is entering his 17th year as head athletic trainer at Western State College.
Mundell was born in Lamesa, Texas but soon moved to Walsh, Colo. While attending Walsh High School he participated in football, basketball, and track. He then went on to receive his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1980, and his master's degree from Colorado State University the next year.
Mundell received the National Athletic Trainers Association certification in 1981. After many years at the high school level, Mundell moved to Western State in 1991.
During the summer of 1998, Mundell was chosen to be the trainer for a team of wrestlers sponsored by the US Olympic Committee and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference to represent the United States in Bulgaria.
Mundell is married to his wife Sue and they have two children, Justina and Kelly.
Janine Pleau - Assistant Trainer
Janine Pleau enters her second year as Assistant Trainer for Western State Athletics.
The Chester, Calif., native comes to Western after spending a year as Head Trainer at both Ignacio and Bayfield High Schools in the Durango area. Pleau also served as Assistant Trainer at Fort Lewis during the 2005-06 school year.
Pleau received her Bachelor of Arts from Fort Lewis in 2003 and is scheduled to receiver her Master of Arts in December.
Pleau also served as Assistant Trainer at Adams State from January 2004 to May 2005.
