It's a busy week with at least one Mountaineer in action from Tuesday through Saturday. Basketball starts at home Tuesday against Mesa State, followed by back-to-back nights of wrestling against Mesa State and Colorado State-Pueblo. Track and field will split their squads between Grand Valley State and Air Force this weekend.

Loren Ahonen won the 3,000-meter run in eight minutes, 37.29 seconds, and Ryan Walstrom threw 57 feet, 8 1/2 inches to provisionally qualify in the weight throw to highlight Western State performances in the second day of the New Mexico Classic today in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

No. 4 Donovan McMahill collected his fourth straight win and 24th overall in a 3-1 decision and Kyle Francis earned his third fall of the season as No. 12 Western State (6-5, 3-3 RMAC) fell 27-12 to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney (13-6, 4-0 RMAC) tonight in the Health and Sports Center.

Dan Biber scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Mountaineers in scoring for the third straight game as Western State (5-14, 2-10 RMAC) won back-to-back conference games in a 55-48 decision against Adams State (4-16, 1-11 RMAC) tonight in Paul Wright Gym. It's the third-straight win against the Grizzlies dating back to last season.

Both Western State men's and women's distance medley relay teams recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the first day of the New Mexico Classic today. The men ran the fifth-fastest time in program history with 10 minutes, 5.38 seconds while the women recorded the sixth-fastest time in school history with 12:15.34.

Western State was without two of its three nationally-ranked wrestlers in the dual.
