It's a busy week with at least one Mountaineer in action from Tuesday through Saturday. Basketball starts at home Tuesday against Mesa State, followed by back-to-back nights of wrestling against Mesa State and Colorado State-Pueblo. Track and field will split their squads between Grand Valley State and Air Force this weekend.

Ahonen Wins 3K; Walstrom PQs in Weight

Loren Ahonen won the 3,000-meter run in eight minutes, 37.29 seconds, and Ryan Walstrom threw 57 feet, 8 1/2 inches to provisionally qualify in the weight throw to highlight Western State performances in the second day of the New Mexico Classic today in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Kirwan Scores Career-High Against Ft. Lewis
Lachlan Kirwan scored a career-high 19 points and Dan Biber added 16 as Western State (5-15, 2-11 RMAC) fell 85-77 to Fort Lewis (16-5, 10-3 RMAC) tonight in Paul Wright Gym. Weylan Towns led both teams with six assists and added three steals for the Mountaineers.

Murray Scores 30 Against No. 6 Skyhawks
Amber Murray reached 30 points for the third time this season to lead all scorers as Western State (8-13, 6-7 RMAC) fell in a 77-70 decision to sixth-ranked Fort Lewis (22-2, 12-1 RMAC) tonight in Paul Wright Gym. Katie Hall also pulled down 10 rebounds for the seventh time this season.

McMahill Wins Sixth Straight at Kearney
No. 4 Donovan McMahill collected his fourth straight win and 24th overall in a 3-1 decision and Kyle Francis earned his third fall of the season as No. 12 Western State (6-5, 3-3 RMAC) fell 27-12 to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney (13-6, 4-0 RMAC) tonight in the Health and Sports Center.

Western Wins Third Straight With Adams
Dan Biber scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Mountaineers in scoring for the third straight game as Western State (5-14, 2-10 RMAC) won back-to-back conference games in a 55-48 decision against Adams State (4-16, 1-11 RMAC) tonight in Paul Wright Gym. It's the third-straight win against the Grizzlies dating back to last season.

Both DMR Teams Provisionally Qualify at N.M.
Both Western State men's and women's distance medley relay teams recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the first day of the New Mexico Classic today. The men ran the fifth-fastest time in program history with 10 minutes, 5.38 seconds while the women recorded the sixth-fastest time in school history with 12:15.34.

Francis Upsets No. 4 Wrestler at Fort Hays
Kyle Francis defeated No. 4 Danny Grater at 157 pounds to claim two of No. 12 Western State's three wins as the Mountaineers (6-4, 3-2 RMAC) fell to No. 15 Fort Hays State (7-3, 5-0 RMAC) 27-10 tonight in Gross Memorial Coliseum. Western State was without two of its three nationally-ranked wrestlers in the dual.
